2017 Wedding Trends & Inspiration

As Chicago wedding photographers, we know that trends and weddings usually don’t go together. Maybe because no one wants to look back on their wedding day 20 years from now and regret following the trend that seemed like a good idea at the time. However, we believe you can follow the trend and make it timeless! So, as engagement and wedding planning season in Chicago revs up, we compiled our picks for 2017 Chicago weddings. We plan on seeing bursts of color, lush greenery, and way more fun!

1. Say goodbye to your classic white dress!

This year we are ready for more sparkle, lace, and patterns! A shimmery dress makes for a bold, yet sophisticated wedding look for a black-tie affair.

2. Breezy silhouettes

If you’re planning a summer wedding or want a more casual feel. Flowy, lightweight dresses are looking fresh and fabulous this season. A lace bodice will give any dress an elegant twist.

3. Cascading bouquets

Bridal bouquets are getting a modern twist! The cascading bouquets of today are a major trend. Both Chicago wedding photographers and Chicago brides are loving this trend and are all about adding lots of greenery and dangling flowers for a natural, chic look.

4. Drone photography

Don’t miss a single moment of your special day thanks to drones. Capturing aerial photos and videos of all of the festivities will help preserve memories that you can look at forever. As Chicago wedding photographers, we are super excited about this one!

5. Go for Gold

For a nice elegant touch, try writing guest names in gold calligraphy on the place cards.

6. New Reception Venues

People are moving away from stereotypical ‘wedding venues’ in exchange for locations that are more special and rare. Think an alfresco meal at a long dinner table in front of a historic mansion, or tents on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean in Big Sur. It isn’t just about having a wedding, it’s about transporting guests to something magical, and allowing them to experience to something once in a lifetime.

7. Reception Games for Your Guests

Weddings undoubtedly involve mixing two sets of families and friends. Break the ice by letting your guests have some fun! If it’s an outdoor affair, bring the games outside! Croquet, horseshoes and corn hole are all fun ways to get guests to mingle with each other and have a great time.

8. New Ceremony Times

Chicago looks stunning at any time of the day, this year we anticipate more nighttime ceremonies. So long to sunsets and welcome dusk. This means lighting and candles can become the focal décor element and not necessarily the florals.
